Dick and Pip Smith Leadership Through Adventure Fund Application Process

The Dick & Pip Smith Leadership Through Adventure Fund (LTAF) was established to support young people in their development of leadership skills, by engaging in responsible risk-taking adventures.  Funds are available only to youth members, to encourage them to be even more adventurous when considering the adventures they Plan> and Do>, and to manage the risks sensibly.

Youth submit applications for financial support based on adventures they have planned.  The LTAF Sub Committee considers their proposals and may provide financial assistance through a grant.  The Fund deliberately encourages youth to initiate the adventures, supported by adults.  The LTAF does not approve the adventure.  Approval and fine tuning of the adventure occurs back in the Scout Group and Branch where the capabilities of the youth and their ability to complete the proposed adventure can be fine-tuned to meet the needs of the youth and the requirements of Scouting in that state/territory.

This Guide is provided to assist all who may be involved in the process of their respective responsibilities.  The underlying principle is that the operation of any activity funded through the LTAF, must follow the Scouting protocols of planning and approval of a scouting activity/adventure as stipulated by the applicant’s Branch. It is incumbent upon the youth applicant and their adult leadership to ensure compliance of their adventure.

So far more than $160,000 have been granted, reports of adventure will become available as completion. View below table for details:

The 7th round of applications close Monday 15th July 2024
