Darlington Venturer Scouts achieve VET qualifications

Two Venturer Scouts from Darlington Scout Group, Oliver and Leona, recently achieved several VET qualifications through Scouts Australia Institute of Training (SAIT) – RTO No. 5443 and shared their experience with SAIT.

Leona achieved:

Oliver achieved:

Oliver was able to achieve Certificate III in some of these qualifications because of his involvement with Branch Youth Council, however Certificate II in Workplace Skills and Active Volunteering are achievable by any Venturer Scout actively participating in their Unit program.

Oliver and Leona shared their SAIT experience with us:

‘The process for getting your Certs was quite straightforward. However it does require careful organisation to ensure all requirements are met. We were both definitely supported throughout the process- which was great! The assessors were fantastic and many responded quickly to our questions, which made the whole experience much easier. Their guidance helped clarify what was needed and kept us on track.

There was some extra work involved, but the majority of the evidence came from activities we had already completed in Scouts. This made things more manageable. While a lot of our evidence came from Scouting activities, we were also able to use examples from other areas, like outdoor ed at school or other outdoor programs. For instance, if someone had done Outdoor activities through school, those experiences could also count towards their qualifications, which provided more flexibility.

Another benefit of working towards qualifications is having them on your resume- which is definitely an advantage! It sets you apart from other candidates when applying for jobs, as it demonstrates leadership, teamwork, and your skills—all of which are valuable in many industries and careers. Plus, since they are nationally recognised AND free to obtain, it’s an opportunity worth taking advantage of.

We strongly encourage every Venturer in Australia to take advantage of these qualifications! They not only add value to your resume but can also contribute to your Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) (if you’re in Year 11 or 12), which is a great bonus. And they’re free!! If you speak to your school, you may even be able to fit them into your timetable, making the process even more convenient. It’s a fantastic opportunity, and we highly recommend getting in touch with SAIT to start the process! – Oliver and Leona from Darlington Venturer Scouts, Scouts WA

We would like to thank Oliver and Leona for sharing their feedback with SAIT on possible changes to the assessment process to streamline it further.
